Louis Alexakis, General Manager of the Greek Islands, will be our host. The evening begins with a guided visit to the Hellenic Museum's exhibit, "Olympic Games — Then and Now." The exhibit dramatizes the excitement of the 2004 Olympic Games being held in Athens by providing an overview of the traditions and history of the Olympics.
An authentic Greek dinner will follow at the Greek Islands. During dinner, Louis will discuss Greek olive oils as they compare with other European oils and give us information on judging olive oils. He will discuss the wines served with dinner, and he will also give us the inside scoop on the subtleties of Greek honeys, famed since antiquity. The luscious dinner will be enjoyed in a setting reminiscent of a Greek village with rooms designed in brilliant Aegean colors to reproduce the cozy "kafenios" and "plakas" of Greece.

In the short time since opening its doors on May 8, 1992, The Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center has become a presence in the city, so much so that it has been designated by Mayor Richard M. Daley as the anchor of the new Greektown redevelopment project, which is transforming the Halsted Street area into a world-class ethnic neighborhood.
